The brand was founded in 1961 by three singular personalities united by a strong aesthetic alchemy: Christiane Montadre-Gautrot, Yves Coueslant and Desmond Knox-Leet. Fed with a common passion for drawing, they start creating motifs for fabrics and wallpapers, and decide to open their first shop with two entrances (like a diptych) in Paris, Boulevard Saint Germain.
Diptyque considers the development of a perfume as a creative act in its own right. A perfume must smell good without compromising its signature, the olfactory "accident" proper to Diptyque. The eaux de toilette, dressed in oval bottles, reinvent and sublimate nature or a trip, which can be real or fantasized. To seize one of these fragrances is to take the risk of attaching oneself to it forever. Among the perfumeurs who have collaborated with the brand, Fabrice Pellegrin and Olivia Giacobetti.
