Description

In the middle of the hills of New South Wales, Australia, stands a perched church. From its walls, an enveloping and reassuring smoke emanates, with notes of smoked, almost burnt, cade wood, supported by the incense of Somalia that burns with force. Inside hovers an atmosphere conducive to asceticism, this discipline aimed at spiritual perfection through repeated efforts: here they have the herbaceous scent of angelica mixed with the liveliness of mandarin. In the background, the animal musk echoes the nature of man. The nose of Bois d'Ascèse, Julien Rasquinet, signs a real tribute to the childhood memories of the Australian designer Naomi Goodsir: the olfactory memory of her first workshop in Australia, a disused church where she made wood fires. The result: a woody trail wrapped in powerful incense.

An ideal environment to practice the spiritual exercise of asceticism: the freshness of angelica and mandarin bring, like a new breath, vitality and harmony. Incense, symbol of divinity, scents and blends with cedar and musk to fill the room with a smoke that brings calm, rest and bliss.

A rather powerful masculine scent, smoky and dark, that the leather brings out. The unexpected olfactory? The smoky side, that the juniper wood, complex, similar to the birch, enriches.

writing Mark Buxton

The Australian milliner is a new troublemaker in the world of perfumery with an unbridled imagination, this time inspired by a chapel nestled in the hills of New South Wales, a state in southeast Australia. The eccentricity of the designer is expressed by this note of burnt wood that extends to the sky a cloud of incense from Somalia to which mingle scents of peated whiskey as a tribute to the secular sacred. An act of pure creation, without reference, out of fashion and codes.
