What is your moto?

MB : "Keep it simple"

What are your sources of inspiration?

MB : "The streets. Because it is there where it all happens. Watching people. How they dress…different towns, culture food. The kitchen is definitely inspiring too, especially the different herbs and spices."

Which fragrance has inspired you the most and why?

MB : "Féminité du Bois of Serge Lutens. I like the accord and originality, especially the richness of the fragrance. It is based on a lot of natural products."

What are the raw materials that you like to work with the most?

MB : "Osmanthus absolute – it is a natural product with a lot of facets.

It smells fruity, green, liquor, animalic. Elderberry absolute - Because it is very warm, balsamic, animalic and sensual. For me, it has something reminiscent of blackcurrant. Davana oil - For it’s fruity, plum liquor scent. Tagette oil - it has a fruity animalic touch. I specially use these products as first of all, they are all natural, second, they bring richness to the fragrance and thirdly, they bring diffusion and originality to a formula.

For instance, I used osmanthus and davana in Sexual Healing (Mark Buxton Fragrances), which underlines the sexy/animalic thread of the fragrance."

What was your first encounter with perfume?

MB : "First encounter with fragrance was when I was a five year old child in England. I broke my mother’s bottle of Chanel 5 in the bathroom and the smell lasted for years and has stayed in my memory, still today."

Of what are you the most proud?

MB : "I have created the style of Comme des Garçons. It was very controversial and edgy for that time. I used certain products in overdose like rose oxide and nonadienal (smells violet leaves)."

What is your next creation?

MB : "Working on my new concept for next year. The teaser: it will be more than me!"
