Comme des Garcons has launched a new perfume, DOT, which was completely created in-house.
The story of this perfume began with the image of the polka dot, which has become practically the symbol of Comme des Garcons. For the smell Rei Kawakubo requested that is was based around the smell of the Osmanthus flower which adorns the parks and the roadsides all over Japan in the autumn.
Comme des Garcon's artistic director, Christian Astuguevieille, thus worked with the perfumer, Lucas Sieuzac along these lines, recreating the scent of Osmanthus.
His aim was not only to capture the smell of the flower but to reproduce the mysterious allure that penetrates the air of a park filles with Osmanthus trees in blossom. DOT captures the gracious floralcy of Osmanthus with fruity tonalities. To this was added green and white amber notes to illustrate the leaves and bark of the tree. A touch of olibanum was added for its resinous touch and pepper oil to enhance the spicy aspect of frankincense.
