In ancient Greece, the first Olympic Games, held in 776 BC. B.C., were not only tests of strength and agility, but also celebrations of beauty and elegance. These competitions, dedicated to the gods, notably Zeus, took place every four years in Olympia.

Athletes, often considered heroes, perfumed themselves with aromatic oils before their events, believing that these precious essences, such as myrrh or cypress oil, brought them strength and divine protection.

During the Games, different plants were also used to make the crowns awarded to the champions. Each had a strong symbolism: the laurel was associated with glory and honor, the pine symbolized longevity and immortality, while the myrtle represented love and beauty.
