Il marchio è stato fondato nel 1961 da tre personalità singolari accomunate da una forte alchimia estetica: Christiane Montadre-Gautrot, Yves Coueslant e Desmond Knox-Leet. Alimentati da una comune passione per il disegno, iniziano a creare motivi per tessuti e sfondi e decidono di aprire il loro primo negozio con due ingressi (come un dittico) a Parigi, Boulevard Saint Germain.
