Orto Parisi: the smells of life
Orto Parisi evolves around three main themes that have passed through the nose of Alessandro Gualtieri. One of them is the idea of freshness. When you ask, "What is freshness?" These are the most common answers: a breeze by the sea, the smell of grass after rain, cold and distant countries, mountain air... But freshness can also be expressed in the form of an instantaneous, precipitous and unexpected event: a slap in the face, a freshly killed prey, a salad from the garden just picked and still a little earthy. It is this idea of freshness emanating from the 'still alive', from the present and the real, that Alessandro has decided to develop in this new collection of fragrances. He also ventured into his memory to reanimate and deliver certain memories of his childhood. Specifically, he sought to recreate the summers spent at his grandparents' home and the intense moments spent in the gardens. His grandfather, Vincenzo Parisi, had a special relationship with the soil - he used to collect its natural needs in buckets and use them as fertilizer. In this garden has always hovered an air of infinity. The smell of freshness combined with that of stench to create a phenomenon of attraction and repulsion... Motivated by these reflections and his experience, Alessandro began his research and confronted the fact that nowadays, the odors that emanate from the body are perceived as unpleasant. Smells that were once considered natural and ordinary are now camouflaged and over-deodorized. By creating Orto Parisi, he rehabilitates in a will of authenticity, the odors of life. If Orto Parisi is an exercise that touches the intimacy of Alessandro Gualtieri, it is also a universal vision, which questions perceptions in a general way and the culture of perfume in its entirety. Let's keep in mind that the perfumes of this collection are not linked to each other. Some are an interpretation of the smell of life, others are the embodiment of Alessandro's experiences.
Orto Parisi emphasizes that our body must be experienced as a garden and that we must look at each part of this body as a plant that exudes its odors. These smells are the mirror of our soul. They do not lie, they identify and give meaning to the concepts and objectives that feed our actions. The most fragrant parts of the body are those that emit the truthfulness of the soul. Body odors are natural and therefore express a form of honesty. They reveal intentions and passions, they are the wild and direct messages that scare our acculturated societies. Strong smells have become unpleasant to us because what comes from the depths of our soul is intolerable to us, as our animal sensuality is repressed and broken by civilization. Orto Parisi, is a true statement that advocates the expression of the inner self through the praise of natural scents. This collection is the garden of the primitive self, a garden that reveals those lingering scents that are the very essence of our soul. "This project is my garden, I sowed it, fertilized it, cultivated it and harvested it, I wanted to dedicate this project to it because, to some extent, it inspired me. At first I thought of writing his biography, but while writing I got bored, realizing that I myself had never read any biography. The idea rooted that he, my grandfather Vincenzo used buckets to collect his natural needs that ended in the most opportune way, fertilizing the garden. In this garden has always hovered as an air of infinity. In other words: To my grandfather Vincenzo Parisi and to all those who seize time by experiencing and diffusing the scent of life" - The Nose, Alessandro Gualtieri.
