Pigmentarium: colors
The name of the house of Pigmentarium comes from Latin. Why Latin? If you come to Prague, you will notice numerous Latin inscriptions on the historical towers and buildings downtown. Even the logo is inspired by tower outlines and the dots on the letters “I” refers to the golden points on top of them. Pigmentarium is derived from the Latin word “pigmentum”, which means “a color”. The colors themselves are inextricably linked to the brand from the very beginning.
The use of scents in various forms is as old as humanity itself, but there were no places where scents could be actually bought. A few centuries ago, even before the first perfumeries were created, it was only possible to buy perfumes in the same places as the pigment, ie the color, and the very first makeup. At first glance, it might seem that the colors contradict the functionalist tuning of the Pigmentarium, but the opposite is true. When composing scents, the founders of the brand always thought profoundly, about what color they would assign to each scent.
Scents in general stimulate the imagination. The very first perfume of Pigmentarium, Ad Libitum was in a canary yellow box and referred to sunset over Prague Castle. Yellow is a color associated with the sun. It symbolizes optimism, energy, joy, happiness, and friendship. It evokes cheerful feelings. It might also stand for intellect.
The gourmet scent of Erotikon was originally assigned the red color. Red is the color of fire and blood. It’s associated with excitement, energy, passion, and sexuality. Red can symbolize desire, power, speed, and strength. And that's exactly what the scent is about.
The summer scent of Paradiso was shrouded in a bright blue color reminiscent of the water level of the azure sea or the pool in the garden. Blue symbolizes freedom, air, and creativity, but also plays with wisdom, fun, and strength.
The warm and animalistic Murmur, based on amber, oud, and musk, was assigned the brown color as a color of the human body. Brown represents resilience, dependability, security, and safety. The attributes that you expect from a loved one and the ones you want to give in exchange. The original color boxes have been replaced by new functionalist ones, but the color in the scents persists. The box and the bottle fulfill only a purposeful function, the true story and color of the perfume are revealed with its first splash on the skin.
