Late Night

Drawn curtains, the outside world erased. In the muted light, two glasses of merlot capture the flickering reflections of a low lamp. The smoke of a Cuban cigar rises in lazy spirals, blending with the scent of the warm leather of the sofa. Feet sink into the softness of a thick carpet. A silver tray rests on the carpet, a remnant of an impromptu room service. Old black-and-white films play silently, and the night seems to stretch infinitely. Here, time no longer matters; tomorrow is another story. Swirls of black pepper and nutmeg blend with the woody warmth of cedar and supple leather. Patchouli and styrax diffuse an enveloping smoke, like a veil floating above the glasses of merlot and whispered conversations.
