The flower has been the symbol of Florence since 1266, and Santa Maria Novella has paid tribute to it by creating its first eau de parfum by Gian Luca Perris. Iris is one of the most precious raw materials in perfumery: iris butter is extracted from the rhizomes, which must mature for 6 years. Iris is also a goddess, the one who traveled on rainbows to transmit messages from the gods to mortals. This fragrance is a luminous bouquet, where galbanum and neroli reveal the delicacy of the city while timur pepper reminds us of the mystery it exudes. As we stroll through the small streets steeped in history, geranium, magnolia and jasmine unfold with grace and reflect the city in its complexity. Finally, iris emerges in a perfectly mastered technique, where perfumery know-how elegantly blends it with musk and ambergris. Iris describes a new story of Florence, blending past and present, nature, technique and myth. </div> </div> </div>

Santa Maria Novella

Born in 1221, the Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella is considered the oldest pharmacy in the world. Founded by Dominican friars, its history began when they had access to Santa Maria Inter Vineas, a small church outside Florence. There they cultivated herbs and plants in its garden to make medicines, ointments and balms. In 1334, Santa Maria Novella became known for treating a wealthy merchant from one of the most powerful families in Florence. Today the house is known worldwide for its perfumes, candles and "traditional preparations".
