In this new episode of "On Tour with Nose", Kilian Hennessy, founder and creative director of Kilian Paris, presents two iconic fragrances from the house: Angel's Share Eau de Parfum and Angel's Share Paradis. Behind both: a sensory memory — that of cognac cellars, with their richness, their power, their intoxicating effect.
Angel's Share: capturing the soul of cognac
Born from the cognac world in which Kilian Hennessy grew up, Angel's Share is the capture of a precise olfactory memory. The fragrance renders the richness of the chai and the woodiness of the barrels through a masterful boozy effect — that sensation of a noble alcohol enveloping the skin without ever burning it.
The fragrance is built around a powerful triptych: oak wood, cinnamon, and, in pride of place, tonka bean absolute. Representing over 30% of the composition, the latter reflects the central role Kilian Hennessy bestows upon it. The true beating heart of the fragrance, tonka bean unfolds its warm, subtly vanillic and coumarin-tinged notes.
Around this heart, Kilian Hennessy has added the small nuances one perceives when tasting a great cognac: a touch of chocolate, a hint of hazelnut. Notes that don't seek to dominate, but to enrich the palette.
Angel's Share Eau de Parfum is a warm fragrance, gourmand in its depth without being so in its register. The cinnamon brings the spice, the oak the structure, the tonka bean the longevity. A fragrance that takes its time to reveal itself — like a cognac you don't drink in one go.
Angel's Share Paradis: the extract taken to the extreme
Angels' Share Paradis is constructed as a perfume extract — increased concentration, and above all, emphasis placed on the noblest and most diffusive ingredients. Kilian Hennessy explains it clearly: the goal was to push forward what gives the fragrance its presence in the air. Oak moss, tonka bean, Ambrox and maltol are amplified — their projection into space becomes the central argument of the Angels' Share Paradis version.
