Since 2019, Aurélien Guichard, founder and perfumer of Matiere Premiere, has combined the authenticity of raw materials with a minimalist and bold olfactory aesthetic. Each fragrance is conceived as an olfactory statement in which the featured ingredient asserts its presence—recognizable, immediate, and addictive.
In this new episode of On Tour with Nose, Aurélien Guichard introduces Vanilla Powder Extrait de Parfum—a darker, denser, and more sensual interpretation of Vanilla Powder. The same territory, explored in a different dimension.
Vanilla Powder: Contrast as a Foundation
After the success of Vanilla Powder Eau de Parfum, Matiere Premiere unveils a new level of intensity with Vanilla Powder Extrait. Aurélien Guichard amplifies the concentration of Madagascar Fair for Life Vanilla Absolute and enriches it with an exceptional guest ingredient: Venezuelan Tonka Bean Absolute. The result is a richer, more textured interpretation, where the dark depth of vanilla is enhanced by a powdery, voluptuous facet. Combined with white musks and a higher fragrance concentration, the Extrait reveals a denser, more sensual, and even more addictive expression of vanilla.
Grown between jungle and ocean, the Madagascar vanilla used by Aurélien Guichard is prized for its deep, intense, and dark character. In Vanilla Powder Extrait, this singular raw material gains a new dimension—more enveloping, more textured, and profoundly captivating.
The Extrait: A New Dimension
For the Extrait, Aurélien Guichard did more than simply increase the concentration. He explored what powdery notes could become when pushed further and given greater depth. His answer was Tonka Bean Absolute—a choice rooted in a compelling internal logic, as tonka beans are ground into a powder before being transformed into an absolute.
Tonka Bean Absolute brings qualities that synthetic powdery notes alone cannot provide: warmth, depth, and an almost tactile texture. It enriches the composition without weighing it down, giving the fragrance a longer-lasting, more inhabited presence on the skin. This additional layer is what makes the Extrait a creation in its own right—not merely a more concentrated version of the original.
Darker, Richer, More Sensual
Aurélien Guichard describes it unequivocally as “deeper, darker, richer.” Three words that perfectly capture the direction of this new interpretation. It lingers longer, leaves a more pronounced trail, and creates a more sensual, skin-like presence. This shift toward greater sensuality is not a departure from the original—it is its natural extension, pushed to its fullest expression. Vanilla Powder in its most accomplished form: denser, more enveloping, and unmistakably more nocturnal.
