Novae Vanilla: Atelier des Ors Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary with a Reinvented Vanilla.
In this new episode of On Tour with Nose, Jean-Philippe, founder and artistic director of Atelier des Ors, introduces Novae Vanilla — a creation by Marie Salamagne celebrating the house’s tenth anniversary. A luminous, mineral vanilla built around a trio of exceptional raw materials. Full of contrast.
An unexplored facet of vanilla
To mark a decade of creation, Atelier des Ors could have chosen continuity. Jean-Philippe chose contrast instead. Novae Vanilla stands deliberately opposite to Lune Féline, the dark, resinous and smoky fragrance that has become part of the house’s DNA. Where Lune Féline descends, Novae Vanilla rises.
Luminous, ethereal — the intention is immediately clear. Far removed from gourmand or powdery interpretations, it reveals a vertical, almost celestial vanilla. The sovereign expression of a house that, after ten years of history, fully embraces its identity in order to explore new territories of expression.
The Vanilla Trio: Three Origins, Three Personalities
Novae Vanilla draws its singular grace from Blue Vanilla from Réunion Island. Thanks to DSM-Firmenich’s revolutionary Nature Print technology, its soul was captured from the air itself, suspended, then recreated through the magic of headspace technology. This reinvented vanilla unveils airy, almost floral nuances, giving the trail a suspended elegance and clarity.
Bourbon vanilla enters the composition for its sensual intensity. Denser and deeper than Blue Vanilla, it anchors the heart of the formula and gives it body. This is the sensual dimension of the trio — the element that ensures Novae Vanilla remains an inhabited fragrance, not merely a luminous one.
Madagascar vanilla completes the triptych with its velvety, woody facets, bringing texture, roundness and lasting power. Three origins, three radically different expressions — an absolute balance that only a perfumer like Marie Salamagne could orchestrate.
Mimosa and Mineral Notes Cloak the Vanilla
The trio of vanillas does not stand alone. It is enveloped in mimosa absolute — Grasse’s golden flower — harvested in winter, at once powdery, honeyed and subtly green. Mimosa adds a very particular floral dimension: neither rose nor jasmine, but something more discreet, more solar.
Yet it is the mineral note that truly distinguishes Novae Vanilla. It gives the fragrance its verticality — the sensation that the perfume rises, opens upward rather than becoming heavy. Jean-Philippe describes it as a tribute to vanilla’s stellar origins. A poetic way of reminding us that vanilla, though organic, carries something universal within it.
Who Is Novae Vanilla For?
Jean-Philippe puts it plainly: Novae Vanilla is “for those seeking a modern and elevated vanilla.” Not a dessert vanilla, not a comforting vanilla. A vanilla that thinks, that questions gender, that embraces its complexity without ever losing its essential softness.
