An olfactory masterpiece, the result of hundreds of tests, Portrait of a Lady has become a reference among the chypre fragrances of the perfume industry. With woody accents, it is a tribute to Henry James' novel of the same name, which features a young American woman facing her destiny with ardor. This fragrance describes a sophisticated woman who is not afraid to dare. Reflecting the personality of its wearer, it reveals a structure that is both diverse and harmonious. The warmth of cinnamon and clove and the fruity notes of raspberry and blackcurrant reveal a fiery heart of patchouli, Ylang-Ylang and an overdose of Turkish rose. This opulently dosed formula undoubtedly contains one of the major dosages of Turkish rose essence in perfumery: it would take nearly 400 flowers to create a 100ml bottle. The result is an extreme sweetness but full of character, where the rose blooms on a base of benzoin, sandalwood, musk, patchouli and incense. With 25 years of experience in the field of high perfumery and thanks to the freedom granted to him by Frédéric Malle, master perfumer Dominique Ropion presents here one of his major olfactory masterpieces, worthy of a thousand and one oriental nights.
I was surprised that this one did not have more lasting power given all I have read about it. It is great but not as good as I had hoped
