Coralive.org's mission is to protect the oceans: restoration of coral reefs and coastal ecosystems, management of marine protected areas, environmental monitoring, creation of environmental education programs... All projects where the private sector, local stakeholders and government agencies collaborate to achieve sustainable results.

Environmental restoration
Marine ecosystems and coastal areas are facing major threats: pollution, exploitation of natural resources and climate change are destroying the natural habitats of marine life and causing species extinction. Coralive.org combines global best practices to restore these habitats and protect endangered species:

  • rebuilding coral reefs using mineral accretion technology, a redox reaction
  • replanting mangrove forests, marine marsh ecosystems
  • transplantation of seagrass beds

Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)
Marine protected areas regulate and limit human activity. Based on ecological, social and political information, they are necessary to rebuild marine ecosystems and their species by protecting biodiversity and providing resources to living beings dependent on the ocean. In this perspective, the missions are set by the United Nations, according to the Sustainable Development Goals. Coralive.org works with local actors to create and manage these marine habitats:

  • design and implementation of MPA management plans
  • implementation of technical support systems
  • monitoring and enforcement education

Environmental data collection
Coralive.org also produces ecological studies and monitoring to determine the status of areas and to inform on the progress of ongoing projects:

  • ocean mapping (high definition bathymetry, geophysical surveys and photogrammetry, 360 virtual models)
  • ecological monitoring (pH levels, dissolved oxygen, temperature, salinity and pollution levels)

Resource protection
When designing MPAs, "no-take" zones (restriction and prohibition of fishing) are defined according to the needs of the marine fauna and flora. Also, alternatives that guarantee food security and income for fishermen must be developed. Coralive.org plans and implements solutions taking into account the needs of all:

  • solid waste management
  • seaweed cultivation
  • bamboo planting and harvesting

Environmental education
Coralive.org is also in charge of transmitting knowledge and experience to the inhabitants living in the project areas. It is a question of training them on the tools allowing to defend and maintain the needs on the long term in order to be able to manage in a sustainable way the resources:

  • awareness campaign on plastic pollution
  • training on coral reefs, mangrove forests and sea grass beds
  • clean-up sessions
